Students will acquire extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in computer science, algorithms, logic, formal methods, theoretical topics, databases, software technologies, optimization, computer vision, data science, models of computation, cryptography, and distributed computing. Likewise, students will have access to different research centers including the center for data science, the center for models of computation, algorithms, and cryptography, the center for logic, optimization, and security, and the center for human language technologies to improve their research and develop practical experience. Throughout the program duration, learners will conduct research in computer science, blending theoretical areas with the latest trends in the industry such as blockchain technology, AI, and information security, and will contact a doctoral supervisor to advise and assist in the research. In the same way, they will attend scientific seminars including theoretical computer science, natural language processing, cryptography, logic, and security. Candidates will present numerous research projects, publish at least two scientific articles, submit a doctoral thesis, and have a final oral examination before the public defense of the dissertation. Graduates will perform expertise and may enjoy a broad selection of careers in various industries and universities.

The admission requirements for the Ph.D. Programme in Computer Science at the University of Bucharest (UB) are an online application, a doctoral supervisor, certificate of recognition or equivalence of study documents issued by the National Center for Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas, high school/BA/MA diplomas or degree certificates recognized by the Romanian Ministry of Education, written approval of a Ph.D. supervisor, proof of English language proficiency, student visa, documents attesting the citizenship of a non-EU country (international applicants).

The Ph.D. program has a full-time duration of 3 years with 180 ECTS. Doctoral students are required to pay a tuition fee of €3,400 per academic year. Other fees such as admission fees, living costs, books and supplies, and transportation will be charged separately. The study fees are required to be paid in advance for the entire academic year. The university does not offer scholarships but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from Romania and the Ministry of Education and Research award scholarship opportunities.
