Students will focus on research areas such as network security and privacy, blockchain technologies, big data network systems, cloud computing, the internet of things (IoT), cellular mobile networks, smart grid and connected vehicles, game design and development, machine learning and artificial intelligence, network architectures and protocols, and analytics to the networking industry.

Throughout the program duration, learners will have interdisciplinary research on IT, take a doctoral comprehensive exam, write and present a thesis proposal, conduct a doctoral thesis in information technology, consult with the supervisor, and have hands-on experience. In the same way, learners will be exposed to cutting-edge research and mutual interaction with industry professionals and speakers through seminar series. The admission requirements for the Ph.D. Program in Information Technology at Carleton University are an online application and a non-refundable application fee of $110, a master’s degree in a related discipline, the ability to work in multidisciplinary groups, a general technology background, a copy of official transcripts from all attended post-secondary institutions, three academic references, a statement of intent, curriculum vitae, proof of strong English language proficiency, study permits, and an undergraduate degree in a related field with a GPA of 90% or higher (international applicants).

The program has a full-time duration equivalent to 5 years. Domestic students are required to pay the tuition fee amounting to $6,933.20 while international students are required to pay $16,413.20. The university offers student support, financial assistance, fellowships, and funding packages to help finance the studies of their graduate students.
