Students will be equipped with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills through a Ph.D. seminar on blockchain research, seminar research in network science, and distributed ledger technologies.

Throughout the program, learners will have a full understanding of the implications and application of blockchain, will obtain an in-depth familiarity with current research topics related to blockchain, will evaluate the research presented in lectures and seminars, and will solve complex problems. In the same way, students will understand the pillars of blockchain including the technology, legal aspects, and economics, and will have practical sessions and field trips to the blockchain hubs in the country to give its students a complete immersion from the experts in the field. Doctoral students will write and present a research proposal as well as write and defend a doctoral thesis. The university offers a graduate campus for Ph.D. candidates and postdoctoral students to deliver the best practice recommendations, coaching and counseling, and a wider scientific community network that gives tangibility to the work of researchers aside from preparing them for career opportunities in many different industries.

The entry requirements for the Doctoral Program of the Department of Informatics – Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies at the University of Zurich (UZH) are an online application, a non-refundable application fee of CHF 100, a professor or supervisor from the department, master’s degree diploma from a state-accredited university, and English language proficiency IELTS overall score of 7.0 or TOEFL iBT overall score of 100.

The program has a full-time duration minimum of 3 years. Doctoral students are required to pay a tuition fee amounting to 150 CHF per semester while foreign doctoral students are required to pay an additional charge of 100 CHF per semester, which is a total of 250 CHF per semester. Other contributions and fees such as living costs are excluded from the tuition fee and are required to be paid per month or year. The university offers financial assistance, grants, and scholarships to Ph.D. students to finance their studies.
